The deadline for responses is midnight (CET) 30 September 2019.
Background information
The IPCC is the United Nations body that assesses the science related to climate change. The IPCC was created to provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on climate change, its implications and potential future risks, along with adaptation and mitigation options. The IPCC is divided into three Working Groups and a Task Force. Working Group I (WGI) deals with The Physical Science Basis of Climate Change, Working Group II (WGII) with Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability and Working Group III (WGIII) with Mitigation of Climate Change. This survey, which is being sent out by the Technical Support Unit for WGI, deals only with the findings related to the physical science basis of climate change. If you are not familiar with IPCC Working Group I, please visit: https://www.ipcc.ch/working-group/wg1/.
Periodically, IPCC Working Group I releases reports assessing the physical science basis of climate change. These reports (typically +1000 pages) contain:
- A Summary for Policy Makers (~15 pages)
- A Technical Summary (~ 70 pages)
- Chapters with in-depth analysis (~ 1000 pages).
WGI is currently preparing its report for the IPCC 6th assessment cycle (AR6) scheduled for publication in 2021. As part of this work a Technical Summary will be developed, as for past WGI assessment reports. To ensure that this Technical Summary is useful to a wide range of users, the Working Group I Technical Support Unit would appreciate your input.
If you are not already familiar with the IPCC WGI’s work, it may be helpful to look at the Technical Summary of the Working Group I report for the 5th assessment (TS WGI AR5), and the outline for the upcoming WGI report for AR6.
The deadline for responses is midnight (CET) 30 September 2019.
