Dr Heide Hackmann, Executive Director of the International Council for Science (ICSU) and former START Board member, was one of the recipients of the Science Diplomacy Awards at the Science Forum South Africa (SFSA) 2017.
The SFSA Science Diplomacy Awards recognize excellence in international cooperation in science, technology and innovation. Dr Hackmann received the award for harnessing scientific advice for multilateral decision-making, demonstrating exceptional leadership to facilitate the merger of the ICSU and the International Social Science Council.
The Department of Science and Technology’s Science Forum South Africa attracted over 2,000 participants and focused on promoting pan-African cooperation in science and technology, putting science at the service of society, and showcasing South African science and technology to the world.
