The Global Observation of Forest and Land Cover Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD) Program will host the fifth Data Initiative, an advanced training on access, management, use and application of earth observation data, tools and methods during October 10 – 14 2016.
WHAT is the GOFC-GOLD Data Initiative?
GOFC-GOLD is a coordinated international program designed to provide ongoing space-based and in-situ observations of forests and other land cover. These observations are intended to support sustainable management of natural resources and to help provide a better understanding of the terrestrial carbon budget.
START, with funding from US NASA and in partnership with the Department of Earth & Environment, Boston University and Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) is organizing the GOFC-GOLD Data Initiative training program for 2016. The Data Initiative training sessions will provide capacity building in support of the GOFC-GOLD Regional Networks, which serve to improve access to, and use of, the remotely sensed Earth observations around the world.
WHEN and WHERE will the training sessions be held?
Dates: October 10 – 14 2016.
Location: Sirindhorn Center for Geo-Informatics (SCGI), Space Krenovation Park (SKP), GISTDA, Sriracha, Chonburi province, Thailand.
WHO is eligible?
The training program is designed for young scientists who are associated with the GOFC-GOLD regional networks, especially in South East Asia, although other scientists are welcome to submit a request to become a Fellow. The selected Fellows will need to be prepared for a very specific technical level of training. To be qualified, a candidate must be: 1) a specialist with advanced degrees in natural sciences or resource management, 2) a young or mid-career scientist and technical expert, or 3) an advanced PhD student. Solid working knowledge of the English language (reading, writing, speaking) is critical. Experience with spatial data analysis and management of large datasets is strongly preferred.
WHERE and WHEN should applications be submitted?
- Applications are due at the International START Secretariat by 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (US East Coast) on Friday 19 August 2016.
