TRAVEL LOGISTICS

GENERAL INFORMATION

Participant travel expenses will be covered by AIACC, including roundtrip economy/apex airfare, economical ground transportation, visa costs and living costs. It is important to arrange for your travel immediately, including three primary items:

2) Visa
If you will need a visa for travel to the United Kingdom, we encourage you to initiate this process immediately. Participants should inform aiacc@agu.org as soon as possible if you will need an official letter of invitation to obtain the visa. A letter of invitation from the Tyndall Centre has been prepared and can be be faxed/sent upon request. 

TRANSPORTATION

Flying to Norwich
It is convenient to fly to Norwich International Airport via Amsterdam (Schipol). KLM airlines has several flights per day from Amsterdam to Norwich.

Travel from Norwich to University of East Anglia (UEA)

  • From Norwich International Airport
    A taxi from Norwich Airport to the University will cost about £9.
  • From The Railway Station (about 4 miles from the University)
    Bus no. 25 operates at frequent intervals between the railway station and the University. Services may be reduced in the evenings and at weekends. The fare is approximately £1.5. A taxi will cost about £6.
  • From Surrey Street Bus Station (about 3 miles from the University)
    Bus nos. 26 & 27 operate between St Stephens Street (round the corner from Surrey Street) and the University. Buses arrive at 10 minute intervals at Stand D. There is also a taxi rank nearby. The bus will cost about £1.2 and the taxi approximately £5.

Flying to London
Participants can travel to one of London's international airports - Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted . >From the London airports, participants can either travel to Norwich by train from London Liverpool Street Station or can catch the Jetlink coach and travel direct from the airport to Norwich Surrey Street Bus Station. Note that travel from London to Norwich by taxi will be very expensive and will not be reimbursed by AIACC. Please use the more economical bus and/or train transportation described below.

Travel from London Heathrow to Norwich

  • by train
    Underground train Piccadilly Line (blue) from Heathrow to Holborn. Change to Central Line (red), Holborn to Liverpool Street Station. The single fare is approximately £3.20. There is also the Heathrow Express Train direct to Paddington (£10), then take the Circle Line (yellow) or Hammersmith & City Line (pink) to Liverpool Street Station. There are frequent train service from London Liverpool street to Norwich, with a cost of about £30. The whole journey from Heathrow to Norwich takes about 3 hours.
  • by jetlink    (RECOMMENDED)
    Jetlink runs every two hours from Stop 11 at the Central Bus Station for arrivals at Terminals 1, 2 &3 and from Stop 10 from outside Terminal 4. The cost of a single ticket to Norwich is £22. The journey takes about 4~5 hours.

Travel from London Gatwick to Norwich

  • by train
    Main line trains direct from the airport to London, Victoria Station. The single fare is approximately £8.60. Underground train Circle Line (yellow) from Victoria Station to Liverpool Street Station. The single fare is approximately £1.60. There are frequent train service from London Liverpool street to Norwich, with a cost of about £30. The whole journey from Heathrow to Norwich takes about 3 hours.
  • by Jetlink       (RECOMMENDED)
    Jetlink every two hours from Stop 2. The cost of a single journey to Norwich via Heathrow and Stansted is approximately £24. The journey takes 5~5.5 hours.

Travel from London Stansted to Norwich

  • by train
    There is a fast rail-air coach service (£8.50) from the airport to Colchester Station. There are frequent trains from Colchester to Norwich (£20). The entire journey from Stansted airport to Norwich rail station takes about 2 hours. 
  • by Jetlink       (RECOMMENDED)
    Jetlink every two hours to Norwich from the Coach Station, Stop 20. The cost of a single journey is approximately £15. The journey takes 2.5 hours or so.
